Physics Events at IIT Kharagpur
PHYSICS TALK
Physics Talks are a series of informal, interactive talks with researchers, distinguished professors and visiting scholars.
Departing from the classic seminar format, these sessions are dedicated to “Physics" itself, and are a blend of conceptual discussions with personal journeys of the speakers. These talks are designed to be very accessible, talking about what inspired our guests to go into science and what the life of a researcher really entails. It is the perfect atmosphere for anyone (but especially freshers) to get inspiration and valuable guidance for their own path in physics.
COMPETITIONS
PhySoc runs a busy program of activities throughout the year to bring our department together. Whether you are looking for the intellectual challenges of our Integration Bee and Project Showcase, or if you prefer friendly chess tournaments and sports such as badminton, there is something for everyone. We encourage everyone in the department to get involved – including our faculty! These events are a great opportunity to break the ice, share a few laughs and build meaningful connections outside of the traditional classroom setting by getting students and professors together in a fun, relaxed environment.
LAB VISIT
Real physics is about seeing how the work of researchers actually gets done. To provide this necessary exposure, PhySoc organizes visits to labs for junior students only, on a monthly/bi-monthly basis. These guided tours offer learners first-hand look at the daily life of a researcher and the opportunity to see advanced experimental setups up close. Students will have the chance to see the most modern facilities in optics, photonics, ultra-fast optics, condensed matter physics, and semiconductor physics and get an invaluable behind-the-scenes look at how experimental science is brought to life.
